SECTION 01Highland Catchment

Mafinga Afromontane Conservation Project

The Mafinga Hills form a rare and fragile highland plateau ecosystem, serving as the critical source headwaters for the Luangwa River system. WECZ collaborates with traditional leadership and local villages to protect remnant montane evergreen forests, prevent catastrophic dry-season wildfires, and establish sustainable community income sources.

Participatory demarcation and community protection of vital headwater spring catchments.
Establishment of protective firebreaks with village fire management squads.
Distribution of modern top-bar beehives to replace destructive tree-felling for wild honey harvesting.
SECTION 02Youth Climate Action

Unite 4 Climate & Conservation (U4C)

Recognizing that young people bear the greatest long-term burden of climate disruption, Unite 4 Climate equips Zambian youth with the scientific understanding, media tools, and community organizing skills necessary to champion climate resilience in their own localities.

Over 500 certified youth climate ambassadors actively leading local adaptation campaigns.
Direct engagement with municipal authorities, local chiefs, and national parliamentarians.
Practical micro-projects focusing on community agroforestry, clean cookstoves, and flood resilience.
SECTION 03School Literacy Network

Chongololo & Chipembele Environmental Education

Founded in the early 1970s, our school club movement is synonymous with environmental awareness in Zambia. Operating in primary schools (Chongololo) and secondary schools (Chipembele), the program empowers children to become lifelong custodians of the natural world.

Termly distribution of educational magazines and activity guides to over 1,000 schools.
Annual inter-school environmental competitions, drama presentations, and science projects.
Sponsored field visits giving schoolchildren direct access to national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.
