Our Heritage & Enduring Mission

Founded in 1953, WECZ has a proud and storied history of environmental leadership in Zambia. As a premier non-governmental organization, our members, community branches, scientific researchers, and public allies collaborate to protect Zambia's incomparable flora, fauna, and water systems for current and future generations.

Pioneered early wildlife reserve advocacy leading to statutory national park creations.
Established the nation's first nationwide school environmental club network.
Consults directly on national environmental statutes, water acts, and wildlife conservation policies.
SECTION 02Scientific & Grassroots

Our Integrated Strategic Approach

True conservation cannot exist in isolation from human wellbeing. We employ a multidisciplinary model combining practical field research, community resource governance, school literacy, and national legislative lobbying.

Empowering local communities with alternative sustainable livelihoods, including apiculture and agroforestry.
Supporting frontline rangers and community scouts with essential field gear and GPS monitoring tools.
Bridging scientific research from tertiary universities with practical on-the-ground ecological interventions.
SECTION 03Institutional Oversight

Society Leadership & Democratic Governance

The Society is governed by its elected National Council, President's Office, and a professional executive Secretariat based in Lusaka. Our structure ensures transparent fiscal oversight, ethical scientific integrity, and direct accountability to our grassroots membership across the country.

President's Office sets national policy priorities and represents WECZ in government summits.
National Council convenes regular oversight assemblies to review conservation strategies.
Executive Secretariat manages daily project operations, grants administration, and public outreach.
SECTION 04All 10 Provinces

Provincial Branch Network

What makes WECZ uniquely powerful is our decentralized presence. Active branches in Central, Copperbelt, Eastern, Luapula, Lusaka, Muchinga, Northern, North-Western, Southern, and Western provinces empower everyday Zambian citizens to monitor local habitats and lead localized environmental action.

Volunteer committees spearheading local watershed and tree planting campaigns.
Community environmental education workshops and youth debate contests.
Rapid response alerting for habitat encroachment and illegal resource extraction.
