Instilling Environmental Care in Every Classroom

For more than five decades, WECZ's Chongololo (primary school) and Chipembele (secondary school) clubs have formed the cornerstone of conservation awareness in Zambia. In early 2025, over 150 new clubs were formally chartered across seven provinces.

These clubs provide students with interactive, hands-on environmental curricula that go far beyond standard classroom textbooks.

Hands-On Science and Community Impact

Club members actively participate in practical, locally rooted conservation projects:

  • **School micro-nurseries:** Cultivating native shade and fruit trees for campus greening.
  • **Plastic cleanup and recycling drives:** Collecting and categorising municipal plastic waste.
  • **Water audit teams:** Monitoring local streams and community boreholes for sediment and seasonal flow patterns.
"When children learn to respect nature with their own hands, conservation becomes an instinct rather than an obligation." — National Education Officer, WECZ

Get Your School Involved

Any registered school in Zambia can affiliate with the Chongololo and Chipembele network. WECZ provides free educational guides, activity workbooks, and mentorship from provincial branch leaders.
